Champions for Us All
In partnership with Conservation International, we at SHP will be creating a 1-hour, High Definition documentary for national broadcast. It will feature the newest strategies to save Earth’s biodiversity. A unique blend of human drama and scientific quest, Champions for Us All will take us from the forest of West Africa, to the river-filled jungles of South America, and finally down under the deep blue sea of the coast in Papua New Guinea.
We need your help to realize this film so please follow the links to learn more about the project and how to donate.
Also, read the great letters sent out in support of this important project by Conservation International, KQED and the Bay Area Video Coalition.

Professor Wangari Maathai of Kenya Wins the Nobel Peace Prize This is groundbreaking because Professor Maathai is the first conservationist to be given this award and it means that her role in conservation and community empowerment is being recognized for contributing to peace. What's so inspiring about this is that it validates preventative, PREWAR strategies for peace: Environmental Stewardship (i.e. sustainable and equitable resource management and allocation) is suddenly given massive attention and credit for something that is meant for more than trees and furry animals.
In her words on an interview with NPR's Renee Montagne, "The kind of work that we are doing is the kind of work that can prevent wars. . . Its a new concept of security, a new concept of peace. Its a visionary decision by the committee and I'm sure that it will help people stop thinking in Post-War and think Pre-War."
We congratulate Professor Maathai and invite you to learn more about her and The Greenbelt Movement that she started by visiting these sites:
