Champions For Us All: A documentary on the future of wildlife conservation. Champions For Us All: A Documentary on the Future of Wildlife Conservation

Champions for Us All is a one-hour HD documentary profiling the newest strategies to save Earth's biodiversity. A unique combination of human drama and scientific quest, it will take us to the most spectacular locations in the world while illuminating the issues of modern conservation research and spurring us to action. Using the world-class biologists of Conservation International's Rapid Assessment Program as our hosts, we will travel from the jungles of West Africa to the pristine waters of Venezuela, and even the coral reefs off Papua New Guinea. In each location, we will join the race against time to uncover the mysteries of that ecosystem and what they must do to protect it. Each location faces a different threat - from governmental instability to potential corporate exploitation or misuse on a community level.

Donate Now: Show your support and make the difference! But the journey doesn't stop there. Unlike other conservation films, Champions for Us All goes further - exploring how conservation and human interests can work together. Whether that be high-stakes negotiations with a mining company or working with a tribe on new farming techniques, Champions for Us All will show us how and why we must all work together to save our planet.

Champions for Us All has the institutional support of Conservation International, the broadcast interest of the nationally respected PBS affiliate, KQED, and it has been awarded a 501(c)(3), non-profit status through the fiscal sponsorship program of the Bay Area Video Coalition. But we need you to join the team as well!

Discovering the Biodiversity of Madagascar

for The California Academy of Sciences - A Natural History on DVD.

A Map to Save an Island: Discovering The Biodiversity of Madagascar our audience will be brought to Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, just off the southeastern shore of Africa. The film introduces the members of The California Academy of Sciences, who are working hard to understand and protect the unique species and life supporting systems of Madagascar. CAS Entomologist, Dr. Brian Fisher, will act as host for this story and we will follow him from the halls of the Natural History Museum in San Francisco, California to literally, the other side of the world. We will be an intimate member of his journey into this politically and ecologically unstable country.

Fisher will guide us through interviews with government officials of Madagascar, complementary research teams on the island, and the cultural outlook of the Malagasy people. We will meet world renowned scientists and conservationist, like E.O. Wilson who will add to the discourse of what the Madagascar island ecosystem represents to the world and what would be lost if critical steps are not taken soon to fully discover and protect its biodiversity.

This is a journey and a story about the dramatic challenges humanity faces as we attempt to scientifically understand our place on this planet. A half natural history piece on the biodiversity of Madagascar and half adventure showcase of the courageous and exciting CAS research expeditions, this film inspires curiosity, compassion and involvement with the future of Madagascar's incredibly unique and diverse ecology.

Erin Dean : Living and Striving with Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Living & StrivingSee the Trailer
with Osteogenesis Imperfecta

In partnership with The Quady Foundation & Act Now Productions

This documentary video educates an audience about the extremely rare genetic brittle-bone disease, Osteogenesis imperfecta. While the video acts as an excellent source of information for parents and individuals who have the disease, it is also an inspiring testimony to how Osteogenesis imperfecta can be a livable condition. The viewer will witness the success stories of many individuals with OI. They will learn more about what research is being conducted and what innovative solutions exist to help overcome the severe lifestyle obstacle that are a normal part of surviving and growing into a independent person despite the handicaps of the disease.

The heart of this video features 21 year old young woman Erin Dean-born with broken bones from this disease. It chronicles her life and her family, friends and professional support network as well. Erin’s condition is tragic, and her appearance is startling to those unaware of this disease. Yet her good humored optimism, and her incredible strategies for coping with the challenging realities of everyday life with OI are, simply put, humbling and inspirational.

Tasting Pepper: Democracy in Conflict
From local news stations that report on fires, guns, and sports to CNN and the BBC, the world took notice of the World Trade Organization protests in the streets of Seattle in early 2000. But did you get the real story or the corporate news version? This is a film that talks to the participants, listens to the teach-in presenters, challenges the status quo and stands up for what it believes in. Independent media is a growing necessity in today's information market. This is a film that explains the issues behind why 50,000 people took off work or time off school to voice their opinions in the streets to an otherwise undemocratic, closed door organization. Fare Trade vs. Free Trade; Economic Globalization vs. cross-cultural communication; the belligerent machine of laissez-faire capitalism vs. the ideals and integrity of our nation's sovereign laws and constitutional rights, these are the issues that drove America's idealists to the streets of Seattle.

Kenya: Life, Culture & Politics of Wilderness

In the spring of 1999, 30 students from around the world traveled to central Kenya to learn about and fight for the dwindling populations of East Africa's wildlife. It was a lifetime of experiences in six months. It was a journey of idealism mutating into disdain and disillusionment but eventually into pride and hope. Journey to this remarkable land and meet the tribesmen who border the national parks and live in constant conflict with the animals. Meet the NGO's working hard to develop the socioeconomic infrastructure and cross-cultural politics of Kenya. Sit down with the head of Kenya's Wildlife Services, Richard Leaky and listen to his vision for the future of Kenya's wildlife. But most importantly, experience Kenya with us; see its vistas and its diversity of life. In an age old land of lions, Masai warriors and British Colonists, witness the efforts of those who are trying to find a way for Kenya to live with and benefit from its wildlife and wilderness.
